Historical Context

Kartli, the heartland of eastern Georgia, received Christianity in the early fourth century, an event that shaped the region's identity. Throughout its history the area faced repeated conquest and persecution — from Persians, Arabs, and Mongols — producing numerous martyrs.

Kozman is commemorated on October 17 alongside other Georgian saints, including the Martyr Susanna (Queen Shushanik, who died in 475 at Tsurtavi after refusing to renounce her faith) and Saint Joseph, Catholicos of Georgia. The shared theme of Georgian Christian martyrdom on this date situates Kozman within that broader history, though no source connects him to a specific persecution or period.
